The Alapaha Blueblood Bulldog has been around the south for well over a century. The ABBB ancestors are the original bullbaiting dogs from England. These dogs have been used for over a hundred years as farm utility dogs doing everything from herding to catch work to guard work. These dogs will accept who you accept as friends as any good dog should;however should the need arise to protect they will do so without hesitation. They are extremeley smart and are easily taught. They are also a childs best friend.
All of my foundation stock is from Marker Nicholas's yard. Marker Nicholas Sr. has been given credit for saving the breed from near extinction. Mr.Nicholas has bred dogs for over thirty years and bulldogs in particular over fifteen years. Mr.Nicholas worked extensively with Lana Lou Lane the founder of the Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog. It is a known fact that breeding like the Alapaha was done in N.C.,S.C.,LA., and G.A. for many, many years. Ms.Lane was the first to put a standard together and an official name on the breed. Prior to Ms.Lane putting an official name on the breed they were simply known as Old Southern Bulldogs or Farm Utility dogs. Mr.Nicholas was the first person accepted into Ms.Lanes breeding program in 1993. At that time Ms.Lane was recovering from a house fire in which she lost Marcelle (foundation male) and most of her foundation bitches. Mr.Nicholas bought and exchanged dogs with Ms.Lane and also brought different strains of bulldogs into Ms.Lane's line of bulldog. These dogs had the same genetic make up as Ms.Lanes dogs;however they were from different gene pools. Ms.Lane was able to turn her breeding program around thanks to Mr.Nicholas's knoledge of genetics. He also worked closely with her as a trainer and at one time all pups had to be sent to Mr.Nicholas for a period of two weeks for evaluation. The Nicholas bloodline of ABBB are dogs that are suspicious of strangers, very devoted to family and very protectve of children. The ABBB will accept who you accept as any good dog should;however should the need arise they will not hesitate to protect those dear to them. I would like to thank Mr.Nicholas for his extensive knowledge of dogs that he has so willingly shared with me and for some outstanding dogs. God bless you and your family Mr.Nicholas.
